“Palestine’s Anguish Against Injustice”
By: Avril Shakira Villar Zamboanga City, Phillipines 🇵🇭
In the same neighborhood two nations reside
Their stories intertwined with destiny as their guide
One, promised by God, their homeland divine
Two, preserved by their ancestors, a sacred sign
One group granted with ample place
While the other confined, in a smaller space
Permission sought for each move they make
As barriers rise, resolve to break
A land governed with rules austere
Yet fairness falters, its essence unclear
Toys monopolized with access denied
Injustice rampant where hopes reside
With power wielded the larger reign
Their dominance clear amidst the strain
Pushing, yelling where their authority held
Leaving the marginalized in silence compelled
In protest stones cast in the air
Sound of grievances cried laid bare
A demand for justice was long denied
A struggled waged in every side
Yet in the middle of chaos, hope remains
In hearts weary with lingering pain
For beneath the surface a shared desire
For peace to reign and souls to inspire.

Meaning of the Work
These poems cover a range of themes and emotions based on my real-life experiences. I consider my pieces creative non-fiction, wherein I fearlessly and boldly express socio-political commentary alongside personal reflections.
